GUITARS ARE TIMELESS
REBELLIOUS INSTRUMENTS

GUITARS AS
WEAPONS OF CHANGE

For millennia, guitars have been in the hands of artists, workers, bards, nomads, and slaves to fight oppression and instigate hope.

Since 2020, a new wave of young guitar heroes has been leaving its mark on the music industry. Songwriters, virtuosos, and guitar lovers are reclaiming the mainstream and, unsurprisingly, using every opportunity to confront society’s massively pressing issues.

“The Loudest Strings” is a podcast focused on guitars, their players, and their value as history-defining tools of Rebellion. In each episode a very special guest chooses a song to guide a conversation about political awakening, personal transformation, social unrest, and the role music—and guitars—played in shaping it.

Guitarists, politicians, and scholars from diverse generations and backgrounds join us to reflect on how sound became action, and how their musical journeys intertwine with their own forms of resistance.

“Guitars opened up the world to me. Music led to art, culture and rock n roll. It represented everything cool and interesting. Freedom, rebellion, romance… happiness. Guitars made everything better!”

- LEE RANALDO (Sonic Youth)

“Every generation has to have its reawakening. This generation is currently experiencing both a trauma and a reawakening, and it’s going to be expressed in the music.”

- VERNON REID (Living Colour)
