Guitar players are as rebellious as
they have ever been
Guitars are timeless rebellious instruments. Its antecedent has been around for 7000 years and were used by artists, workers, bards, nomads and slaves to fight oppression and instigate hope.
“The Loudest Strings” is a hosted docuserie about guitars, their players and their value as history-defining tools of Rebellion. It will bring the latest generation of guitar heroes facing established names to learn with each other about music, life and their hopes for the future.
On the night John F. Kennedy was shot, Bob Dylan went on a stage and performed “The times, they are a-changin’”. Alone, with his guitar, he stood up for a country in disbelief. In such a seminal year for the civil rights movement, a guitar player, singer and songwriter lent his strength and courage to the whole nation, dreaming of a better world where “He who gets hurt would be he who gets stalled”.
And times did change. Music became a commodity and artists were silenced for too long. Not anymore. Young musicians are reflecting, as well as leading, movements against our oppresive and unfair society and, more often than not, guitars are their chosen tools of rebellion. We need those guitars to become weapons of change again.
